Got a Policy Violation Email From Play Console? What to Do Next

A policy email from Google Play looks alarming, but it follows a predictable process. Do these steps in this order and you will usually be back online without an appeal.

Step 1: Read the exact policy named

Open Notifications and Policy status in Play Console, and read the email. They name the policy you violated. Do not guess, and do not start changing things before you know which policy it is.

Step 2: Check the deadline

Warning emails say how many days you have before the app is removed. Write the date down. If the app has already been removed, it stays unavailable until you submit a compliant update.

Step 3: Fix the cause, then check the rest

Fix what the notice names, then review the rest of the app against Google Play's Developer Program Policies. Further enforcement can follow if a second issue exists.

Step 4: Update every release track

This is the step people miss. Fix every type of release: production, open testing, closed testing and internal testing. Then:

  1. Upload the compliant bundle to each track.
  2. Deactivate the non-compliant bundles.
  3. For each track, create a new release and discard any draft that still holds the old bundle.
  4. Save, review, and roll out to 100%.

Leaving an old bundle active can make the resubmission fail.

Step 5: Appeal only if you think it is a mistake

  • You get one appeal per enforcement action, so use it well.
  • Be polite and factual. Abusive messages can cost you email support.
  • Appeals are answered in Chinese, English, Japanese or Korean.

What not to do

  • Do not republish a removed or rejected app before the violation is fixed.
  • Do not open a new developer account to get around it. Repeated removals can lead to suspension.
  • Do not ignore the warning. A warned app that is later suspended requires an appeal.

If the cause is old code (an outdated target level, billing library or permission handling), that is exactly the work we do. Send us the policy email text and the source for a free check.

Frequently asked questions

Does a policy warning affect my developer account?

A single warning or removal does not immediately affect your account, but repeated removals can lead to suspension.

How many appeals do I get?

One appeal per enforcement action, so make sure you have fixed what you can before you appeal.

My app was removed. Do I lose my ratings?

No. Once a compliant update is submitted, the app's users, statistics and ratings come back.
